PHILANTHROPY

The International Reading Rally and Literacy Event is held in partnership with the Columbus Public Libraries Summer Reading Program. As an incentive for children to finish the program, the Columbus Chapter’s contribution to this partnership is the donation of two bicycles and two helmets to each branch and mobile unit of the Columbus Public Library. Each library holds a drawing for the winner from the group of children who successfully completed the Summer Reading Program.

We’d like to take amoment to thank (and spotlight) another of our loyal Summer Reading Club supporters – Executive Women International®. Executive Women International® was established in California in 1938 when Lucille Johnson Perkins recognized the importance and potential of an association of key women working with their executives to promote their firms and improve their community.

With over 3000 companies and 3500 representatives asmembers, Executive Women International® brings together key individuals fromdiverse businesses for the purpose of promotingmember firms, enhancing personal & professional development and encouraging community involvement. The collaboration between EWI® and Columbus Metropolitan Library has helped build our Summer Reading Club to the successful programit is today. Since 2004, as an incentive for children to finish the program, the EWI® Columbus Chapter has donated one bicycle and a helmet to each branch of the Columbus Public Library. This year, they donated 2 bikes and 2 helmets per location! Each library holds a drawing for the winner fromthe group of children who successfully completed the Summer Reading Program…so including ourWorthington and Southwest Library partners, this year 54 happy kids get new bikes! With each year, more andmore people join our Summer Reading Club. Last year, over 80,000 kids participated.
